California Court Filing Format: Rules 2.104–2.109 Applied to Your Motion
Upload the Word file. It comes back set to Cal. Rules of Court 2.104–2.109 — Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, page numbers, headings in bold capitals — with a checklist of what the clerk looks for.
A clerk rejects a filing for the layout before a judge reads a word of it: the wrong typeface or size, single spacing, a missing page number, a margin under an inch. Cal. Rules of Court 2.104–2.109 sets each of these, and Veermat applies every one to the document you already drafted for California superior courts: Times New Roman 12 pt throughout, 1.5 line spacing with no extra space between paragraphs, 1-inch margins, a page number at the foot of every page, argument headings in bold capitals, block quotations single-spaced and indented, and no horizontal lines between sections. The caption, the signature block and the certificate of service are kept exactly as you wrote them, and the report tells you if any of them is missing. Your wording never changes. Checking is free; the editable .docx downloads with Pro or as a one-time purchase.

In short
To format a filing for California superior courts, upload the Word document to Veermat: it applies Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, 1-inch margins, a centred page number at the foot of every page, bold-capital headings, single-spaced indented block quotations and removes horizontal lines, then reports the checklist — typeface, spacing, margins, page numbers, headings, caption, signature block, certificate of service. Nothing in your text is rewritten.
What are the California Rules of Court formatting requirements?
Rules 2.104–2.109: type of 12 point or larger in a face essentially equivalent to Courier, Times New Roman or Arial; lines one-and-a-half or double-spaced (footnotes and quotations may be single-spaced); margins of at least 1 inch on the left and ½ inch on the right, with the first page's caption in the rule 2.111 layout; pages numbered consecutively at the bottom. Upload your motion and Veermat sets the type, spacing, margins and page numbers and reports each item.
Rules 2.104–2.109
12-point, one-and-a-half spaced, numbered at the bottom
California's rules are specific about the small things — 12 point, 1.5 or double spacing, page numbers at the foot of the page — and a superior court clerk applies them literally. The formatter sets Times New Roman 12, 1.5 spacing, 1-inch margins and a centred footer page number, keeps the caption you drafted, and reports the checklist.
- Times New Roman 12, 1.5 line spacing, 1-inch margins
- Page number at the bottom of every page
- Headings bold capitals; block quotations single-spaced
- Caption, signature block and proof of service checked for
Features
Why people choose Veermat to format a California court filing
Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, 1-inch margins
Every paragraph — caption, body, headings, block quotations, signature block — set to Cal. Rules of Court 2.104–2.109's typeface, size and spacing, with the extra paragraph space Word adds removed so the spacing is uniform.
Page numbers and headings the clerk expects
A page-number field centred at the foot of every page, added only when the footer is empty. Argument and point headings come back bold, in capitals and flush left; the horizontal lines Word draws under headings and from typed dashes are removed.
Caption, signature block and certificate of service kept
The caption table, the parties, the case number, the signature block and the certificate of service stay exactly as you wrote them. The report flags any of them it could not find, so a missing certificate is caught before filing.
A checklist, not a guess
Each item of CRC 2.104–2.109 comes back as a line in the report — pass, or what to fix — with the formatted filing beside it.
Use cases
Where it helps most
Motions and oppositions
A motion to dismiss, an opposition, a reply — drafted in the firm's template or from scratch, formatted to CRC 2.104–2.109 in seconds.
Briefs and memoranda of law
Long argument sections with three levels of point headings format the same way as two pages, and the headings come back in bold capitals.
The hour before the filing deadline
Upload, read the checklist, fix the one thing it flags, download. Faster than checking the local rules a paragraph at a time.
Documents from co-counsel or a client
A draft that arrived in Calibri 11 single-spaced with a decorative header comes back in the court's typeface and spacing, with the header content preserved.
Why not just copy-paste?
Veermat vs. doing it manually
Fixing formatting by hand takes ages and rarely comes out consistent. Here's the difference.

Frequently asked questions
Do I still need line-numbered pleading paper?+
Rule 2.108 requires line numbers on pleading paper for most superior court filings. The formatter does not draw them; keep your firm's pleading template for the numbered lines and run the document through here for the type, spacing and page numbers.
Does it use double spacing if I ask?+
Yes. Rule 2.108 allows one-and-a-half or double; ask on the result for “double-spaced” and it re-runs.
Does it change my caption or my signature block?+
No. Tables, the caption, the signature block and the certificate of service keep their content and layout; only the typeface, size and spacing are set. If one of them is missing, the checklist says so.
Does it rewrite any of the text?+
Never. Layout only: typeface, size, spacing, margins, indents, page numbers, heading weight and capitals, horizontal lines. Every word, citation and footnote stays as you wrote it.
Line-numbered pleading paper?+
Not yet. The formatter sets the type, spacing, margins, page numbers and headings; where the court requires numbered lines in the left margin, keep your firm's pleading template and run the body through here.
