ChatGPT Text to a Clean Word Document

ChatGPT's copy button copies Markdown: ### for headings, ** for bold, | pipes for tables. Paste it into Word and upload the file: the symbols become real Word formatting, and lines like “Here is your essay…” are flagged for you to delete.

Copy an answer from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini with the copy button and paste it into Word, and you get the raw Markdown: “### Introduction”, “**key point**”, a table drawn with | and ---. Veermat recognises that text and turns it into what it meant: Word headings at the right levels, bold and italic text, bullet lists and real tables, then formats the document. It also looks for the notes the AI wrote to you — “Here is your updated essay”, “I hope this helps” — and lists them so they don't end up in what you submit.

How it works

How to turn pasted ChatGPT text into a clean Word document in four steps

The fastest way to turn pasted ChatGPT text into a clean Word document without manual copy-paste, screenshots, or formatting cleanup.

  1. Step 1

    Upload your Word document

Drop in the messy .docx you want cleaned up. Your file is processed only to format it and is never used to train models.

  2. Step 2

    AI reads the structure

The AI detects headings, body text, lists, and tables, and finds inconsistent styling, without changing any of your wording.

  3. Step 3

    Formatting is fixed

Heading styles, alignment, spacing, fonts, lists, indentation, and margins are made consistent across the whole document.

  4. Step 4

    Download the clean .docx

Get a still-editable Word file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and LibreOffice: clean formatting, your words unchanged.

In short

Paste the AI text into Word and upload the .docx. Veermat turns Markdown into real formatting — ### lines into headings, ** text into bold, pipe tables into Word tables, dashes into bullet lists — then formats the document and flags leftover AI notes such as “Here is your essay” so you can delete them.

How do I get rid of ** and ### when I paste from ChatGPT into Word?

Those are Markdown symbols the copy button includes. Upload the Word file to Veermat: each ### line becomes a heading, **text** becomes bold, and a table drawn with | and --- becomes a real Word table, with the symbols removed. Your words stay the same.

Markdown in, Word out

The symbols mean something: they become it

Deleting asterisks by hand loses the structure they marked. The converter keeps it: a ### line is a heading, a run between ** is bold, rows between pipes are a table. Only clear Markdown is converted — a single # in ordinary text is left alone — so a normal document is never touched by it.

  • ### and ## lines become headings, top level first
  • **bold** and *italic* become real formatting
  • Pipe tables become Word tables
  • - and * lines become bullet points
  • “Here is your essay…” and “Let me know if…” lines flagged to delete

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste the text straight into the site?+

Paste it into a Word document (or a Google Doc) first, then upload the file or paste the Docs link. The result comes back as an editable .docx.

Does it delete the AI's notes?+

No, it lists them. A line like “Here is the updated essay” is quoted in the report so you can delete it; nothing is removed without you seeing it.

Will it rewrite or detect AI text?+

No. It changes formatting only and does not judge or rewrite the writing. If your course asks you to cite AI use, see how to cite ChatGPT in APA 7.

Does it change my words?+

No. Only the formatting changes. Your sentences, data and citations stay exactly as you wrote them; anything that needs your judgement is listed in the report instead of being changed.

Is it free?+

Yes. Upload the Word file (or paste a Google Docs link), see the formatted result and the itemized report free, no signup. Pro downloads the editable .docx.
