APA 7 Reference Generator
Paste a DOI, an ISBN or the article title. The entry comes back in APA 7 with the right italics, initials and DOI link, from CrossRef and Open Library records.
Most reference mistakes are not typos but structure: initials instead of first names, the journal title in italics but the article title not, a volume without its issue, a page range with a hyphen instead of an en dash, a DOI written three different ways. Veermat’s reference generator takes a DOI, ISBN or title, fetches the publisher’s own record from CrossRef or Open Library, and lays it out as an APA 7 entry deterministically — the same record always gives the same entry. When a field is missing from the record the entry is shorter and a hint says so; nothing is ever invented. Build the list, copy it into Word, then run the paper through the APA formatter for hanging indents and alphabetical order.

Reference generator
Built from the publisher's record (CrossRef, Open Library). Nothing is invented: a missing field makes the entry shorter, never made up.
How it works
How to generate an APA 7 reference in four steps
The fastest way to generate an APA 7 reference without manual copy-paste, screenshots, or formatting cleanup.
- Step 1
Paste a DOI, ISBN or title
A DOI (10.xxxx/…) or ISBN resolves exactly; a title is matched against the publisher's records and flagged if the match is not certain.
- Step 2
The record is fetched
Authors, year, title, journal or publisher, volume, issue, pages and DOI come from CrossRef and Open Library — nothing is invented.
- Step 3
The entry is formatted
APA 7 or MLA 9 punctuation, italics, initials, en dashes and the DOI link are applied deterministically; a hint marks anything to check.
- Step 4
Copy the list
Entries sort alphabetically as you add them. Copy one or the whole reference list, paste it into Word, then run the paper through the formatter for hanging indents.
In short
An APA 7 reference entry lists the author surnames and initials, the year in brackets, the article title in sentence case, the journal title and volume in italics, the issue in brackets, the page range with an en dash, and the DOI as a link. Paste a DOI, ISBN or title into Veermat’s generator and the entry is built from the publisher’s record; nothing is fabricated.
How do I create an APA 7 reference from a DOI?
Paste the DOI (it starts with 10.) into the generator. The record is fetched from CrossRef and formatted as: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year). Title of the article in sentence case. Journal Title, volume(issue), pages. https://doi.org/xxxx. Books use the title in italics and the publisher; chapters add the editors and the page range.
From the record, not from a guess
The entry is built from the publisher’s metadata
Many generators ask you to type each field and then punctuate what you typed. This one starts from the DOI or ISBN record itself, so the year, volume, issue and pages are the publisher’s, and the DOI link is exact. A title search shows its confidence, so you know when to double-check the match.
- Journal articles, books and book chapters
- APA 7 and MLA 9 from the same record — switch with one click
- Sentence-case article titles with a hint to check proper nouns
- Copy one entry or the whole alphabetical list
Features
Why people choose Veermat to generate an APA 7 reference
DOI, ISBN or title
A DOI or ISBN resolves exactly. A title is matched against CrossRef and flagged when the match is not certain.
APA 7 punctuation
Surnames and initials, the year in brackets, italics on the journal and volume, the issue in brackets, an en dash in the page range, the DOI as https://doi.org/…
MLA 9 too
The same record formatted as an MLA 9 Works Cited entry: full first names, the title in quotation marks, vol. and no., pp., and the DOI.
A whole list
Entries collect and sort alphabetically as you add them. Copy the list, paste it into Word, and format the paper for hanging indents.

Frequently asked questions
Does it make up references?+
No. Every entry is built from a CrossRef or Open Library record. If no record is found you get a message, not an invented entry. If a field is missing from the record, the entry is shorter and a hint tells you.
Why is the article title lowercased?+
APA 7 sets article and book titles in sentence case: only the first word, the first word after a colon, and proper nouns are capitalised. The generator lowercases the rest and reminds you to restore proper nouns, which no record can identify reliably.
Can it cite a web page?+
Not yet — web pages have no publisher record to build from. Use a DOI or ISBN, or paste the article title.
